You are incomprehensibly beautiful and precious…and there’s nothing you can do about it.

We can forget this and cover it up with many stories about what we are, but (more…)

Knock! Knock!

Babies cry when matches are pried from their chubby little fingers. Well, I’m sometimes that baby. I’ve learned that sometimes a path that I think is great is really a dead-end or one that would take me straight off a cliff. Like the baby, I have cried when that door slams in my face.

It’s not always easy as we (more…)

It’s now o’clock…

There were six kids in my family growing up–three girls and three boys. I am the youngest girl. One of my sisters was always working towards some goal from a very young age. Everything centered around the goal. She was miserable in the process and made everyone miserable around her.

I remember thinking that it would be better once she achieved the goal. But alas, (more…)

We all have ideas of what we need, what we want, and what will make us happy. The problem with our ideas isn’t that we ask too much but that we ask too little.

I’m never referring to things or being greedy. The things are the least of it and automatically follow (more…)

Getting carried away…

We can be so afraid of the unknown. We sometimes even cling to the most terrible things because we believe it’s still better than the unknown.

Out of the darkness…

There was a period in my life that was extremely dark; I can only describe it as a period I would have never thought one could walk through and live to tell about it. Baby steps…

I don’t know about you, but I can sometimes forget that we don’t make progress by sitting around waiting for giant leaps but by being willing to consistently take very small steps.

It can sometimes seem like we aren’t making any progress, and then one day, we look back and see just how far we’ve come. Those tiny steps are often (more…)

Your beautiful colors cannot be erased, no matter what. No. Matter. What.

And sometimes, we see them more clearly when we break open.

When I posted this last year, someone commented that they didn’t understand “my obsession with breaking.” I write about breaking fairly often because it’s usually when we break that our greatest opportunity for spiritual growth is at hand. As long as things are “good,” we are generally content with the status quo and usually don’t look any deeper. It’s usually only when we are brought to our knees with some challenge that we become motivated and willing to deep dive, and this is where we find real and lasting purpose, joy, and happiness.

Breaking isn’t bad; however much it can feel like crap, it’s often the beginning of real spiritual growth and the opportunity to truly blossom.

I have broken open too many times to count at this point, but there comes a time when it no longer feels like a breakdown but rather an opportunity and a breakthrough. I now break at least a little every day and have come to welcome it.
