The rainy season is coming to an end here in Napa Valley, and the roses are almost in full bloom. Here’s a little reminder to anyone in a storm today.
I know it sometimes seems like what this meme says isn’t true, but just because something seems to be true doesn’t mean it is true. It looks like the sun disappears at night, some trees die in the wintertime, and that roads narrow and disappear in the distance.
These things seem to be true, but we know better, so we aren’t tempted to believe the appearances. We don’t panic when driving on a hilly country road because we fear we’ll fall over the edge. We’ve had so many experiences that tell us that these appearances aren’t true that we drive on without a second thought.
The same holds true with life in general: We need different experiences that teach us that no matter how it might seem, we are never alone, and there is a strength within that is greater than any storm. Once we know what is true, we are no longer fooled by what seems to be true. Once we learned that 2+2=4, we weren’t tempted to believe that it’s 1,000 or 1,000,000–or any other number but 4, but we first had to learn what is true.
How do we learn about this Strength within us, and that it’s greater than any storm? I can only tell you how I learned it and continue to learn. Go within. Listen. Ask. The most important thing is to listen; this Strength doesn’t need us to tell it anything. It takes practice.
It’s okay not to know what you still need to learn. Your superpower is to recognize that you don’t know and be willing to be inwardly taught.
