Spiritual deep-diving isn’t for the faint of heart. I’ve had too many profound and wonderful experiences to count, but it can also be very challenging at times.
I’ve had several of what could be referred to as dark nights of the soul. One period I passed through, in particular, I can only describe as so dark that I would have never thought one could walk through such a thing and live to tell about it. (If you are walking through your own dark night, I will tell you that you will come through, and it will be brighter on the other side than you can imagine.)
During that particularly dark, dark night, I began to see the importance of listening for and following the sometimes almost imperceptible little inner prompts of joy.
When things are very dark, these “joy prompts” won’t necessarily feel like skipping-through-the-tulips prompts. I noticed that a couple of things felt just a wee bit lighter, and since everything felt incredibly dark and heavy, they stood out. I noticed that the more I focused on those tiny slivers of light and followed them, the brighter they became. And as we know, light and darkness can’t coexist, so as I followed the little prompts of joy, the light became brighter and brighter, and the darkness began to recede.
It really doesn’t matter what brings you joy. Try to avoid analyzing it. Just follow the prompts simply because they feel joyful. The rest will unfold.

Thank you. I’ve been going through a long, dark night for a few years now. I look for those moments of joy and I do find them. Thats how i remain sane. That and prayer. Thank you for the reminder. 🩷🌷
