We can be so afraid of the unknown. We sometimes even cling to the most terrible things because we believe they’re still better than the unknown. So what do we do? Particularly when we see something that scares us on the horizon?
When we look out over the horizon as the sun is setting, it looks like the sun disappears. It might look like it’s even swallowed by the ocean. If we didn’t know any better, we might understandably panic. But if we were to see this from high above, we would see that this scary picture isn’t true at all; the sun is right where it’s always been, and all is well.
When we become frightened by anything, it’s just like this; we are seeing it from a perspective that appears scary, but if we were to rise above it, we would see that our fears are unfounded.
You might be thinking, “Yeah, but…” This has to be experienced. It will not make sense unless it’s experienced. All the “yeah buts” will not get us there. So what does?
We all have an inner hot air balloon if you will. When we learn to get quiet and stop fighting these pictures, it’s the air our balloon needs to lift us above the noise so that we can see that all is well.
It’s not something we need to make happen; we just need to get out of the way of what wants to happen.
