This inner voice is called many things. By whatever name one chooses to give it, I discovered that learning how to hear it and follow its guidance is the most important thing there is to do.
I’ve heard this voice in too many ways to count: Sometimes, it’s a quiet whisper or a feeling that nags at me to pay attention. Other times, it thunders, speaking of ideas the human mind would say are foolish or impossible. It’s sometimes almost an audible voice; often, it’s a warm feeling that flows through me. It also speaks to me through seemingly ordinary everyday things–the television guide, advertisements, street signs, songs, other people, a tiny reflection on a piece of metal–too many things to count. In those moments, these things are no longer ordinary; they are the deliverers of sweet messages and lessons of love and joy.
This voice is always singing to us in and through everything. It will never stop until we hear it, for it is the voice of infinite and eternal Love.
Hearing it can take practice. One way to practice is through meditation and prayer. (By “prayer,” I am not referring to any sort of asking, begging, or pleading for anything.) Meditation and prayer, to me, are a combination of deep contemplation and quiet listening.
I find it best to do this in very short intervals, of just a minute or even less, but many times a day, always with the same goal…to feel peace.
Put on your bunny ears…
