I was a professional fine artist for many years. After I began having very profound spiritual experiences, I discovered I could paint. I left grad school and eventually began to receive painting commissions.
Painting taught me so many things; the least of them was how to paint. I learned that creativity, ideas, and how a painting would unfold were often revealed while I was doing nothing.
I had my studio set up like a living room so I could sit apart from my work area and read, watch television, or whatever else, but I could still see my easels with works in progress. While I was sitting back calmly and casually observing these works, ideas would come, and I would jump up and place them on the canvas.
I also found this is true in life; inspiration, the breath of life, and the things that make us feel most alive can’t be forced. These aren’t revealed by heavy labor and personal effort but are made visible when we can step back and allow them.
Resting isn’t a checking out of life but a purposeful way of tapping into all that matters. It’s a practice that can open a whole new world.
But don’t take my word for it. In case you need one, this is your permission slip to rest.

Thank you for this. It is a GREAT reminder of one of the most precious gifts in life….😊

So very true on many levels. Sometimes- ideas come when least expected. God has control!
