There is a light within you that can shine away any darkness. Call this light whatever resonates with you, but the most important thing is to go beyond what you call it to the experience of what it is. Words, actual words, are too little and can never contain the experience of what this light is.
Words are a string of little symbols with a culturally agreed upon meaning that point to something. They are never the thing itself. The word “chocolate” isn’t actually chocolate. It points to chocolate. Many words point to chocolate in many languages, but the only way to know what the word points to is by eating the chocolate, i.e., actually experiencing chocolate.
Some get so caught up in the words that they can’t go beyond them to what these words are pointing to. An exercise I’ve found helpful is to take the words we use to represent this light, get quiet, and ask, “What is (insert your word for the light)? What does (insert your word for the light) really mean? I want to go beyond just words to what they are pointing to.”
