We often look around for answers, for a flicker of light—looking here, there, and everywhere—but it might be time to BE the light we are searching for.
The first question that usually comes to mind is, “Well, how the heck do I do that?” And the beautiful thing is that we don’t have to know the “how”; we just have to be willing to ask the question. The “how” will show up.
It might show up as offering a smile to a stranger or a simple “hello,” instead of keeping our heads down or gaze averted. It might appear as pausing before we ride the keyboard in anger or annoyance on the internet. It might show up as giving a wordless nod to the driver next to us, extending a kind word to someone, a word of encouragement, a compliment, or expressing thanks to someone where we might have otherwise remained silent.
We don’t have to know how we can be the light today and every day. We just need to ask, “How can I be the light today?” The Light is always ready and willing to show us.
As we let our light shine, we too are illumined, and we discover that the light we were searching for “out there” was always right where we are.
