Although they are familiar, I realized that comfort zones aren’t really all that comfortable, and to find what I deeply long for, I must be willing to step out of these not-so-comfortable comfort zones.
The familiar is what we know by definition. It follows that when we leave the familiar, we enter the unknown, which can be scary, but this is where indescribable wonders are found.
I don’t know about you, but I can tend to cling to earthly branches while the endless sky is beckoning me to take flight.
It’s okay, though; entering the unknown sometimes has to be done slowly. I have seen that spiritual awakening is like this: It’s as though we have lived in a dark cave, never seeing the light; we don’t know anything else.
Then one day, we see a sliver of light and follow where it leads. We peek our heads out of the cave and into the light, but it’s so bright and different from the cave we retreat back. It’s not that we don’t like the beautiful light; it’s just that it’s so very different that it takes many “peekings” to get used to it.
Each time we do this the darkness seems darker and our longing for the light grows until we are more and more willing to peek our little heads out for longer periods.
Thank you so very much for your inspirational posts. They touch my heart deeply and I appreciate you!❤️
