The highest prayer that I have seen is a song of thanks. It asks for nothing in the realization that all has already been given. It’s not gratitude for things but a deep sense of fullness, completion, and joy.

This isn’t where I started; It took me a long time to reach this. I began by giving thanks for anything and everything. I then moved to giving thanks for spiritual principles, even when I seemed to be experiencing their opposite. When I felt alone, I gave thanks that I could never be alone “because You are always with me.” When I needed money, I gave thanks that all my needs are always cared for, even though this didn’t seem true.

I didn’t put my head in the sand about what I was experiencing but recognized that just because I was experiencing something, this didn’t make true. The sun seems to get swallowed by the ocean at night, but we know that it continues to shine even though we aren’t experiencing its warmth.

Giving thanks opens our eyes to what has always been. You and I and all are loved beyond comprehension…right here and now, and are infinitely cared for in all ways.
