It’s okay to set the whole thing down. You will have everything you need and more if you do.
Stepping into the unknown can be scary, but what we find there is never frightening; everything we’ve been searching and hoping for is found there. Nothing from the past is needed, and there’s no need to lay down a future plan for protection either.
We don’t lose anything by doing this, however much it can seem like we will. It’s here that we find Everything.
Here’s a little exercise I did many years ago that helped me release the past in some measure: Close your eyes and imagine that you are standing before a gentle and all-loving light. Next to you is your “past pile” with all your burdens, hopes, and all those you feel like you need to care for and make safe.
One by one, bring each thing or person to the outstretched arms of this light, waiting to receive your gifts, and say something like this: “Please take this. You can take care of this much better than I can. It was never my job to carry these things. I trust you with them now.”
When I carried all those I dearly love and placed them in the arms of this light, I felt like I was washed from the inside.
I recommend that you have a couple of boxes of tissues nearby when you do this.
I love this idea!
