I don’t know if there’s anything more important than expressing gratitude…or more powerful. Any sense of lack is healed in gratitude. Love necessarily fills our hearts when we express true gratitude, and where love is, peace is also present. (Note: I’m never referring to sentimental, romantic love. I’m always referring to Love with a capital L.)
What’s really great about this too is that it can so easily be taken into the laboratory of our own life and be tested. Take an hour or a day and be determined to express gratitude as often as you can throughout the predetermined period and just see how you feel. See what happens.
When I practice, I don’t limit my gratitude to things; in fact, I seldom focus on things when I am expressing gratitude. I give thanks for the Spirit that lies beyond all things–the beauty and love that I know is present everywhere, however much I may not be seeing it in that moment. And like a siphon, acknowledging this through gratitude parts the clouds and draws the light that’s always been present out into expression in my experience.
One of the most important things to remember is that we don’t have to feeeel grateful first. The feeling of gratitude is like the caboose; the feeling follows as we consciously and deliberately practice giving thanks and appreciation.
