Starring at the blank canvas, not knowing how to proceed, I began to panic. One of the many things that occurred after I began having deep spiritual experiences was that I could suddenly paint just about anything, but as this canvas sat in front of me, I had no idea what to do.
I then heard the inner Voice that had become so familiar to me at this point, “You don’t have to know how to do this. You didn’t paint any of the other paintings, and you don’t need to know how to paint this one either.”
In that moment, I forgot that painting, and everything for that matter, are not up to me and my abilities, but is a practice of listening and allowing what is within to come through. The only thing required is my willingness to allow it to happen. It was less about me doing something than not interfering with what wants to happen, and I was interfering by believing it was up to me and my abilities.
There is inexplicable beauty within that wants to shine forth onto the canvas of our lives. We don’t have to make this happen; it’s not dependent upon our abilities, understanding, knowledge, experience, or anything else. In fact, the more we cling to the idea that it depends upon these things, or anything we do or don’t do, the more we are interfering.
Learning how not to interfere takes practice; we have to learn how not to depend upon ourselves, let go of being the doer, and become the beholder. We learn that we don’t have to rely upon our own strength because we are carried.
Eventually, it feels like we are driving along and then are told within that we can take our hands off the wheel and put a blindfold on. It is a walk of deep trust and faith. This trust is developed through countless experiences that teach us that we not only can trust but that we want to. As we learn to trust and get into the backseat, we experience the indescribable and what many call miracles.
Beautiful and insightful. Sharing…
