I had worked so hard to put myself through undergraduate school and was in grad school when I began to see a pattern: I saw that I would repeatedly put on my bull horns and head in a direction, giving it all I had, but every time they would end up the same, slipping through my hand like sand. I found no sense of fulfillment no matter what I tried.
Maybe the single best decision I made was when I decided that since every direction I took seemed to end the same way, maybe the best thing to do was nothing. This was not easy. It was actually very challenging. I didn’t know that this would lead me where it led me at the time. I had no idea that this decision was an invitation for something I had no reference point for. It was after this that I began to have profound mystical experiences.
(A little side note: It was after these mystical experiences began that I could suddenly paint just about anything. I still have no clue how I do it. This was only one small thing that resulted from these experiences.)
This decision opened a way for me to find what I had always been searching for on every path I had taken. I didn’t know that what I had been looking for had always been patiently waiting for me within. I just had to look to where it had always been.
I could share so much about doing nothing. It’s so much more than not moving; it’s a sense of trusting and stepping aside. It’s resting in the infinite and loving arms of the Infinite.
I must warn you: If you don’t want to have indescribably beautiful experiences, a sense of never being alone, and a deep sense of peace and joy, don’t do nothing. Stay very, very busy. Wink.

Life seems to be full of twists & turns, nothing seems to stay the same which is good on many levels but not always easy to understand. Keep up the good work! You got this!

JLL, You are sharing so much lately. Thank you. Can you consider starting a small community like this but more private where we can support, encourage, help, nurture each other. With metta. K~

Hmmm…I hadn’t thought of that Kathryn. I do have the private PSP&Co. Facebook group but there are over 100,000 members now, so not so intimate. I’m open to suggestions. You can email me at thepup@tangledtwinkle.com if you’d like.

I went through the same thing at about 32.

If you’re talking about God, just say it. He is my Lord and Saviour!

It never ceases to amaze me how some believe that screaming at others about their beliefs is in any way helpful or spiritual. If my not using the word God makes you uncomfortable, perhaps it’s something you might want to meditate on and ask within yourself. Perhaps there’s more to learn about what that word really represents. That’s certainly not personal–we are all learning, but if we think we already know with certainty, we are no longer teachable.

So helpful to me right now. I was trying to look for a word to help me move past a block I’m having and after I read this it came to me, surrender. Thank you!

I love the word surrender. Doing it can feel strange at first, but it always leads to peace. I’ve learned that if I don’t feel peaceful, I haven’t surrendered yet–even though I think I have. Wink.
