I think many of us can tend to cling to what we’ve known–I know I do. I’ve heard people saying that they want things to return to normal so many times this past year. I get it and certainly understand, but it got me thinking that maybe there’s a new normal that’s better than the old normal many want to return to. I know that I’ve learned a lot in the past year–priorities have shifted, goals have changed as well as what I value in general. There’s a softness that’s descended, if you will, and a simplicity. Things aren’t as hurried as they were and I’ve gone deeper within myself. (And I’m a lot more bendy having taken up yoga in the last year. Wink.) I’m actually not even sure how to return to the old normal even if I wanted to.

I know this past year has produced some great hardships for many and how returning to “normal” can seem the like the solution but I think many of us have changed in this last year, and that a new normal will arise from this. Perhaps one where we, at the very least, operate at a little slower speed, take time to appreciate what we have, and have a little more compassion for one another. Maybe for some, this past year has been our collective chrysalis, turning us all into caterpillar soup. Maybe we will emerge with wings.
