I learned many things as a fine artist for many years–many things that apply to life in general. I painted primarily in a more realistic style applying thin layers of oil paint in order to achieve depth and brilliance. This takes time. Paintings unfold and always seem to go through stages where things don’t looking very good. If I bought into how they appeared at this stage, I would have stopped and and tossed the canvas aside, banishing it to the “failure” pile, but they slowly pass through these stages…one tiny brushstroke at a time. Believe me, there were many times, both in painting and in life, that I wish I had a roller instead of those tiny brushes, but there is something rather sublime about watching beauty slowly blossom where nothing seemed to be.
In life, I’ve learned (and continue to learn) that this beauty is literally everywhere, peeking it’s little head out, just waiting for me to give it an invitation to blossom in my awareness. I’ve learned that the more I look for it everything, and expect to see it, the more it takes my breath away in ever surprising ways. This Beauty can’t be seen by looking at how things appear to be, but is released by looking through appearances to the one thread that connects everything.
Just love this. All of your posts and art brighten my day!
