I really try not to write anything that I haven’t experienced myself. I don’t think any of us needs just nice words.
As I look back on my own life, it was often the deep challenges that led to some of the most profound and meaningful experiences–experiences that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
I have also had these experiences without challenges, so I don’t know if they are necessary, but most of us are content to go our merry way until we get hit over the head…myself included.
I’m even seeing this in my yoga practice. From the beginning, I have wanted to be able to do deep back bends so that I could touch my toes to my head. I could barely bend my back at all when I started so this seemed an impossibility to me.
Recently, under the expert and awesome tutelage of my yoga teacher @cathymadeoyoga, I was working on opening my back up deeper and was attempting a pose called King Pigeon. In this pose one leg is bent in front and the other is extended behind you. You bend that back leg and then reach back and grab your foot. You then have to crank your arms around and overhead and bend back so that your toes meet your head. Yep.

Cathy was working with me on opening my back more. We were doing this pose at first with a yoga strap, but very soon she asked me to drop the strap and try it without it. I thought she was crazy! I did as she instructed and after some maneuvering, to my utter shock and amazement, my little toes met my forehead for the first time!
Tears streamed from my eyeballs as it was so much more than landing a yoga pose. There was a profound sense of transcending limits that were deeply embedded. Even now, whenever I think about it I am filled with this same sense of joy.

I can’t wait until you do another book and cards – maybe next year? Have a wonderful and safe Christmas. I just love your work – both your artwork and inspirational messages.Linda

Thank you. I needed to read this encouragement. There are two things I would like to do, but feel they are out of my reach.
