Imagine you are driving down a busy New York City street. The tall buildings that surround you in all directions limit your view to just the street in front of you. The only tools you might have to make decisions about your route is this very limited perspective. Now imagine you are wearing a headset connected to a team of helicopters not only hovering far above the tall buildings, but with the ability to see how every little turn you make, and even every word you speak will affect everything and everyone…for all time.
Listening to inner guidance can be likened to listening to those “helicopters” that are ALWAYS traveling with us and always not only have our very best interest in mind, but the best interest of everyone for all time! Some might call it intuition others call it the Holy Spirit but by whatever name, it’s always whispering, and will never fail to lead us in the very best way if we are willing to hear it and follow in the way it leads.
The problem is that we seldom really know what the very best way is but think we do, so we don’t trust this Voice and its guidance. We are like babies who think that knives and matches make great toys and cry when they are taken away. We think we can use our limited experience and very limited “New York City street view” and from that decide what we really need and how to go about getting it. We think we already know the way and can be our own guide, so we don’t even put on our headset to hear the guidance from helicopters hovering above.
If I think I already know something, I necessarily think have the answer so my mind is closed. If I think I already know, for example, that 2+2=5 then I won’t even ask what 2+2 really equals. I think I already have the answer so why would I ask? Likewise, we so often think we really know what we need, what’s in our best interest and the interest of others, and what we need to do accordingly.
There came a time in my life when it became very clear that I didn’t have one idea what I needed or what to do. It came with tremendous pain as, like many, I thought I SHOULD know these things. What I didn’t know is that coming to this place, this very painful place, was a silent invitation for those helicopters that had always been patiently waiting to swoop in. Coming to a place where I recognized I did not know created an opening to hear them.
The tricky part is that once we begin to hear, we also have to trust what we are told and this can fly in the face of everything we believe sometimes. I have had countless experiences where the guidance was clear and yet MY ideas of what I needed (those knives and matches) was very different than what I was hearing. I have cried my eyes out many times as I heard the guidance, not understanding why I was being led in certain directions. Even as I cried, I would invariably listen and follow only to be led to such unexpected blessing and downright miracles every single time.
There are times it feels like we are being carried, floating along a gentle stream, and other times when
we are too afraid to hear directly so circumstances must squeeze us in a particular direction. It might look like things are being taken away during these times–things might look like they are falling apart and that we aren’t getting what we think will make us happy. This can be particularly painful. During these times, I try to remember often that I really don’t know but that there is something within me that does, and it MUST be with me now leading me and guiding me, evidence not withstanding. Something we often call faith. xo
Thank you so much for this beautiful analogy. I dont often read the text below but always appreciate the pics especially as it always includes your dog.
I guess my inner guide guided me to read it.
Thank you so much for your daily posts and pictures. They speak to my heart. They are bright and happy!
Lots of love and good vibes.
A grateful soul in South Africa

Yes, trusting that inner voice can be scary at times. When you begin to trust and see how it works within the framework of your life you begin to trust it more often than not.
I’m so blessed to have such loving, kind and intelligent in my life. Thank you sweetie. Xo 2 U!!

Thank you for this message today. During mediation this morning I also heard the words – “Trust and Believe, You are a powerful manifestor – Your thoughts – positive or not so positive create your reality.”
