Some things happened recently that have led me to reevaluate my life a bit. As I listened within I was reminded of how I feel when I know that everything I need is within me. When I’m clear about this, and therefore look there instead of outside of myself– in other people, in circumstances, and conditions–I no longer have expectations of others. It’s a beautiful thing; I no longer need people to be a certain way, or for them to even be in my life.
When we really see this and come from this place, it’s not that we don’t care about others or enjoy them or love them. In fact, we love them more and in a purer way. We just don’t NEED them to fulfill us, make us happy, or to be any particular way, because we find a deep sense of completion and fulfillment within ourself. A true sense of fulfillment and happiness that isn’t dependent upon anyone or anything outside of ourself. When we do this, we set others free from our expectations and experience such an indescribable sense of freedom ourself.
The truth is that we will never find a true sense of security, safety, and happiness by looking outside of ourself. Circumstances and conditions certainly can’t be counted on, and people do many things that are hurtful, unexpected, and even shocking at times. And unfortunately they sometimes leave us. So to place our hope and faith in these things necessarily leads to disappointment. It leads to disappointment because we are looking in the wrong place. We look outside while we carry within us what we long for and is ours all along.
We will never find something by looking for it where it doesn’t exist. (And the odds of finding something greatly increases when we look to where it is.) I often refer to this as “fishing in a field.” In life it’s as if we set up our little camp in a field somewhere. We feel hungry and empty and are looking for fish to fill us. So we cast our line over and over again, catching a tire, a boot, an empty can. With deep and repeated disappointment, we wonder why we continue to feel so empty. We feel deeply discouraged until a gentle little whisper bubbles up from within, “If you want to catch fish child, you must go to the water.”
These clumps of dirt I’ve been catching lately aren’t very tasty. I’m going to gather my tackle box today and move to the water. Join me? I hear there’s even cupcakes there! xo

Jesus is all you need. He fulfills and makes a drastic difference in our lives. When I surrendered all to God and accepted Jesus, my life was never the same again. Even as I joined my son on his cancer journey, it was all about Him, not about my son or brother or parents or family members. He made it all possible through our faith and trust in Him. We were able to praise Him in every storm and be at peace. My son went to Heaven because it was his time. My son was rewarded for his faith and so were we as we accepted and trusted God even more. I live in awe. Matthew 9:29 According to your faith it will be done.
