Do-nothing-day…

I’m taking a much-needed day of meditation, rest, reading, writing, and reflection. This might include bubbles. I love do-nothing-days. All the important things get done.

Believe…

Never stop believing in magic and miracles; they are all around if we look for them. Be determined to see them today.

How? You might ask. We can begin by simply consciously acknowledging that they are always present and available to us throughout the day. (Even if you don’t really believe it yet.)

This is not to say that we (more…)

Need a faithlift?

We can all use a little faithlift sometimes, but what is faith?

We always put faith in something; when I sit in a chair, I have faith that it will hold me up. My faith isn’t blind faith; it is based on my many experiences of sitting in chairs.

We can sometimes put faith in the darkness of problems, suffering, and pain. When we’ve experienced a lot of these, it’s hard not to do this, so we need new experiences, light experiences, to learn that there is something else we can have faith in.

To have true faith, we need to have experiences of that light; otherwise, it’s blind faith and more “wishcraft” than faith. We hope and wish the Sun will rise but stay planted in a dark cave where the Sun’s light does us little good.

There’s no shame in not yet having direct experiences we can put faith in; we all have to start somewhere. But blind faith can be a hindrance because we can tell ourselves it is enough—that we don’t have to go beyond this to direct experiences.

So, how do you have experiences that lead to true faith? At first, you will just be paying lip service to it, but that’s okay. You can start with one simple idea: “Please show me how to see the light that is always shining right here and now. I don’t see this right now and haven’t experienced it yet, but I want to.”

You will be led.

With direct experiences comes faith so that even in the midst of what appears as complete darkness, we can see the light, and that light dispels the darkness.

If I give the impression this is always easy, don’t believe me; it’s sometimes effortless, and other times, it requires everything you have to hold to the light while that darkness seems to close in on you. I know that darkness cannot stand where light is truly acknowledged and allowed to enter, so every bit of effort in this direction is worth it.

Breaking open…

Your beautiful colors cannot be erased, no matter what. No. Matter. What. And sometimes, we see them more clearly when we break open.

When I posted this before, someone commented that they didn’t understand “my obsession with breaking.” I write about breaking fairly often because it’s usually when we break that our greatest opportunity for spiritual growth is at hand. As long as things are “good,” we are generally content with the status quo and usually don’t look any deeper. It’s usually only when we are brought to our knees with some challenge that we become motivated and willing to deep dive, and this is where we find real and lasting purpose, joy, and happiness.

Breaking isn’t bad; however much it can feel like crap, it’s often the beginning of real spiritual growth and the opportunity to truly blossom.

Rest…

I need this today. I’ve been in the midst of the craziest, most challenging move (to Napa Valley) I’ve ever experienced. I’m taking my first real rest day today, and I’m not sure I remember how to do that. Gasp!

Rest. Lay down your struggles and rest. If only for a moment. You are loved and cared for beyond comprehension. Right here. Right now. No matter what it might look like, this is still the only truth. Rest.

Your heart is always singing this song to you and only wants you to hear its sweet melody. It will never stop singing to you. Nothing you can do or ever have done could change this.

How do you rest your mind? There are many, many ways to do this, but one way is this: (more…)

Just breathe…

“Why am I here?” I asked inwardly. I had been living in a deep spiritual state for quite some time when every door closed, and I had the choice between living on the street or staying with my dad.

Dad and I had a long history of hostility. We were left with him after Mom passed; he had a lot of demons and was an abusive alcoholic. I saw him through kinder and gentler eyes after I began having profound spiritual experiences, but I still didn’t want to live with him. God had other plans. (more…)

‘Tis the truth…

Deep down, most of us believe that if we look within, we will find the truth about ourselves, which will be too terrible to behold. Furthermore, we often feel that to think this of ourselves is humility.

On the contrary, what we find when we plunge into the inner depths is incomprehensibly beautiful. It’s not arrogance that sees this; we had nothing to do with the beauty that we are. It’s not something we fashioned ourselves; we had nothing to do with it. It’s what we were created to be…and forgot. (more…)
