Those ghosts can be very spooky, but one thing is true about the past: it’s gone.
Today is filled with gifts. They are clouded by those pesky past ghosts, but just like the Sun, they are always there shining, just waiting for us to look past the clouds.
How do we do this? How do we see these gifts? It can take practice and determination, but with practice, success is assured.
We actually don’t need to do anything about the past. What can we do about what is gone? What isn’t here and now? In fact, the only problem we have is believing we need to do something about it and that we can. It’s impossible to let go and hang on at the same time.
I see so many comments about how hard it is to let go of the past. It’s really important to ask ourselves if this is true, or is it much, much harder not to let go?
If you really want to let go, the answer will be clear. If it’s not clear, then it’s important to be honest with yourself and recognize that you still believe that hanging on somehow serves you.
When we do this, the temptation to judge ourselves often bubbles up. Try not to judge yourself; just simply notice it. Noticing that we are still holding on because we want to is the beginning of the letting go process. In the recognition that nothing and nobody outside of yourself is denying you today’s gifts, you will begin to see that you have had the power all along and that you hold the key.
You do not have to know why you are holding on; you do not have to analyze any of it. You will be led from this point in ways that will blow your little mind.
