Have you ever heard of something for the first time, and then suddenly begin to see it everywhere? (A type of car you’ve never seen before, for example.) It’s not that these things weren’t always there to be seen, we just weren’t aware of them, and so they went unnoticed. I’ve learned to employ a similar principle when it comes to faith.
I don’t see faith as a passive thing but as an active, conscious endeavor. You might call it “directed faith.” For example, take the text I wrote in the image I posted, “Even though I can’t see you, I know you’re always with me…You will forever shine in every light.” I don’t have to stop with this as just a nice idea, but take it and actively work with it.
I’m writing from bed this morning as I usually do in the morning.
The blackout shade is still down but there’s a tiny bit of light streaming through the cracks. Working with this idea, I would consciously acknowledge or call to mind that, “You are shining in this light” with every bit of light I see. I would acknowledge the presence of “You” (by whatever name you choose to use) in every light I see throughout the day…even in the tiniest glint of light bouncing off the edge of a vase or in a dew drop.
The beautiful thing is that it’s true regardless of whether I acknowledge it. Just like gravity just continues to be gravity whether we acknowledge it or not, but I’m not content with that–I want to experience it. I want to feel it, know it…feel its peace, and actively looking for it in light, and honestly, in everything and everywhere, is one way to begin to really see it. It’s a way where everything can become a meaningful encounter with the infinite invisible presence of Love.
Look for the things you yearn to see as what we look for, is truly what we see.
