I was going to respond yesterday to all the ruckus but wanted to get quiet within. There are going to be disagreements with others in life as we all have a unique vantage point from which we see things. What I have found is that if I consciously look for how we are alike, I am able to see others through eyes of compassion and understanding rather than conflict. Someone might have very differing views from me but deep down they are just trying to find a sense of peace and happiness just like I am.
Yesterday’s post fluffed a lot of feathers. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. It was a post paying tribute to Ruth Bader Ginsburg the Supreme Court Justice who recently passed. It was NOT about George Floyd. It was NOT about sex. It was in reference to gender inequality.
I am a feminist. At its core, Princess Sassy Pants is about feminism because it is my own journal of sorts. It is about teaching women and girls that they have intrinsic value and worth that so far transcends the societal and cultural limits often placed on women throughout history. It is about finding a strength within ourselves that isn’t subject to the opinions of others or even to our own opinions about ourself. It is about learning that we can stand up even if our knees shake a little. It’s about finding an inner peace that cannot be threatened. PSP just so happens to use fairy dust and tiaras to share some of the ways I’ve learned to find these things within ourselves.
(A side note: I don’t believe feminism is just about women and girls, men and boys benefit as well from every step we take to recognize we are all equally valuable and learn to respect each other accordingly. Seeing anyone or any group as less than never serves anyone.)
I’m no longer selling anything. I do not ask anything of anyone here. If for whatever reason you believe PSP doesn’t serve you, you are always welcome to leave. That is your right and freedom to do that and I wish you well on your way. You CANNOT use this platform to spew hatred towards others (including me) no matter how much their opinion differs from yours. When have we ever felt better for this? I would invite everyone to look at each other with kinder and gentler eyes and in so doing we might discover that we really all do want the same things however different we might seem sometimes.
What I’ve discovered in that when there’s conflict, we really don’t have to know what to DO specifically, as when we begin to allow ourselves to see one another through the eyes of compassion and understanding, what to DO becomes clearer.
Very much appreciate what you do-Thank-you 🙂

Well said psp as it was taken from a quote well before all the current systematic racism (sp* ) nastiness in the world . Feminism is very close to my heart and those that smashed the glass ceilings should be recognized and celebrated

RBG was a great lady and very respected by so many people. There were many, many kind and loving words and thoughts in the paper and on the internet. The unkind ones were so wrong to use their spite, and negitive thoughts and words to state their minds. Your very loving and kind tribute to RBG was a bright light in my day of feeling so sad and lost for having lost such a great woman. We’ll not see her likes again. So sorry, R.I.P. RBG, we’ll miss you so much as a light and focus in tnis world. Thank you, Jane for keeping upthe good work of good words.

Your tribute to a remarkable woman was certainly within the bounds of acceptability. I wasn’t aware of a ruckus and those that rejected your tribute are clearly narrow minded. But as you iterated if people don’t like a post it simply can be deleted. I shared it with many and received no negative feedback. Keep up your excellent posts!

I actually felt the post was appropriate for me. I shared it with many people who are from very diverse backgrounds. I shared it with many who are not on the same side politically. I actually lived through the time where women couldn’t get into higher management at my place of employment…. 1974. Although I had a college degree (Which I had to rely on scholarships and student loans to obtain),it wasn’t in the “correct”subject. We were first told you need three courses in the particular subject matter. I went back to college, completing the three courses (while working full-time, having a child in second grade and my husband working out with town). After obtaining the three courses, the rules changed to a degree in the subject matter. So, I went back to school, and got a degree. All my life my mother told me never rely on others to make your way in life. It was a lesson which served me well. With the help of my parents ( keeping my child went my husband was on the road)and support of my husband, I never had to rely on anyone to make my way.
I watched my mother work her way through PBX school and then work her way through nursing school….while having two children. My mother ended up being one a few women in our neighborhood that had a job. My mother adored being a nurse and it defined her the rest of her life.
Ironically after the many… many obstacles thrown in my way…. I ended a 31 year career in one of the top positions. So, I very much identified with your post. Your art work and messages have given me many thought provoking moments. I often share them on Facebook with my thoughts on the subject. I appreciate you and wanted you to know how the message affected me. I am entertaining zero negative comments.

Your beautiful and thoughtful daily posts (and VERY cool PSP drawings) are helpful, kind, thoughtful and fun. Occasionally I write a note about them in my journal and once in a while quote something you’ve included in your post (but give you credit for it!!) What you do for so many of us is a real blessing. I love receiving them each day.

It is so sad there is so much negativity in this world. I love your posts, I show them in my classroom to my 5th grade students. My boys may not like the the “girly” look but it is the words ad the meaning behind them that are important and count. I admire your bravery, strength, and standing up for what you believe in. I admire your heart of kindness and love especially is this crazy world where people feel that hate is the answer if you don’t like something. Your posts warm my heart, make me smile, and laugh especially on days where it is especially challenging to do so.
Thank you for your words of wisdom and darling drawings.

I’m shocked that your post caused a ruckus and it pains me that it did. Whatever happened to “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all” and “don’t speak I’ll of the dead”?
I loved your RBG tribute. I love you and your art and your posts. You help me so much!
